Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripollwas born the 2nd of February 1977 in Barranquilla, Colombia. She is a pop-rock singer and song-writer in Spanish and English. In Arabian the word Shakira means “the grateful”.
She is one of the most famous female singer in the history of Latin music. In the 1990s she started with great success in the Latin American and Spanish disc market. However, it was not until the year 2001 when she became famous world-wide with her album Servicio de lavandería (Laundry Service). The artist sold more than 50 millones of discs obtaining twice the Grammy award and eight times the Latin Grammy.
