Our INTERNSHIP DEPARTMENT assigns internships to anyone who wishes to have a new, enriching WORK EXPERIENCE while applying his/her knowledge of the Spanish language. In case of insufficient Spanish knowledge, an intensive Spanish course prior to the internship is required.

INTERN PROJECTS

The internships are related to a certain academic or professional field. The participant selects the type of internship indicating desired or preferred work fields.

Internships are performed in governmental institutions or private companies of recognized prestige such as companies, universities, travel agencies, lawyer’s offices and universities. IECR organizes all formalities related to your internship. We assist by providing you with information about the specific field and your work tasks. Furthermore we will always be available for you by telephone or email.

 

Requirements / Period of Internship

The intern must be at least 18 years old and comit to participate at least 8 weeks. Furthermore the participant has to present two photos passport size and the passport itself to arrange the formalities.

 

ACCOMODATION

IECR offers you two different accommodation options: homestay and apartments.

 

1.    HOMESTAY

Living with a host family will help you practice your Spanish, live the Costa Rican culture and make friends. Each family has gone through a selection process and is selected to ensure that they fit our student’s needs. Many families have been with the program for years and know how to treat our students well.They all offer clean lodging in safe neighborhoods. They are located in the same suburb of San Jose where our school has its site so they can be reached by walking or taking one bus.Homestay programs include private room, keys to the house, two meals per day, airport pick-up and transfer to the host family as well as laundry services.

Fee: $19/ day;    $133 / week

 

2.    APARTMENTS

We also understand that living with a family is not for everyone, and offer other lodging options besides a homestay.  IECR can offer you accommodation in secure, spacious apartments. These will provide you with comfort during your language studies: All apartments include cable tv, internet, refrigerator, full kitchen and telephone.

There are two apartment options available:

1.      Budget Apartments

We offer shared apartments which are located 2 blocks from our site, 3 bed rooms, 1 bathroom, tv, wifi connection, fully equipped kitchenette, washing machine and parking.

  • Shared apartments (private room) : $28 / night ; $160 / week ; $500 / month
  • Shared apartments (double room) : $20 /night per person ; $120 / week per person ; $400 / month per person

You will share the bathroom and other common areas with the other apartment guests.

 

2.      Standard Apartments

These apartments are 15 minutes walking distance from our site and furnished with fully equipped kitchenette, cable tv, large private bathroom with shower, safety boxes, self-service laundry, wireless internet connection and parking. The breakfast is included and computers with internet connection.

$70 to $135/night ; $435 to  $810/week ; $1390 to  $2680/month

 

Language requirements

In case of basic knowledge of the Spanish language, a Spanish course of at least 2 weeks is required in order to participate in an internship.

 

Payment/Financial Compensation

Internships are not paid. However, in some cases participants are compensated through allowances e.g. payment of food, fare, tours, etc.

 

Assignment Fee

The assignment fee of $150 is due on your arrival as well as the additional days of lodging during the internship.

 

APPLICATION PROCESS FOR INTERNSHIPS 

1. You contact us.
2.We send you the application form for internships.
3.You return us the filled in form (not binding) including all necessary documents.
4.Pre-evaluation of IECR.
5.IECR informs you within five to seven days regarding the internship possibilities in your case.
6.If you agree with the internship offers, you send us a confirmation of participation in the internship.
7.You will receive the confirmation of application
