On May 15^th, 1993 the United Nations Assembly proclaimed this day as the International Day of the Family.

Family is considered to be the basis of any society independently of the country, historic moment and other circumstances. It enjoys a privileged position in education having influence in the way of life, thinking, feeling and relating to the rest of the society.

This annual celebration has turned to be an initiative which reflects the need of comprehension between parents and children and to improve the capacity of the nations to address problems and conflicts that families are confronted with all over the world. It is also aimed to promote to achieve politics which help resolve these problems by the cooperation between the countries.

However, it is not meant to be a mere event to promote awareness of the political powers  of issues relating to families but also to citizens so that they deliberate about the situation of the families in all the countries, they get to know the problems of the family unity and to express their solidarity.Furthermore it is meant to submit possible solutions in order to improve these situations by the means of specific themes which are pointed out every year. 

Family continues to be primary sociability of the individual although it has very different realities all over the world. So the celebration of the International Day of the Family is an opportunity for everybody of us to get aware of the situation of the families near us and to demonstrate our solidarity.
